Fruška Gora is home to many interesting locations, whether they are buildings, historical sites, or unique landscapes. Often, many of these places will unexpectedly appear to you while you are on your way to a planned destination in Fruška Gora.
The mysterious Vrdnička Steps consist of 58 concrete steps that lead from the road deeper into the forest, all the way to a plateau that has nothing on it. The path does not continue from the plateau into the woods. The purpose of the steps and the plateau is unknown to us; it seems that a memorial or a resting place was planned. They are located on the exit from Vrdnik towards Zmajevac, right next to the road, and represent the perfect place to imagine your fairy tale, myth, or legend.
The park is most commonly used today as a promenade, mountain biking area, and as the site of the most visited May Day picnic every year. The original shape of Kamenicki Park emerged during the early construction of the Marcibanji–Karačonji castle in 1758. The castle was built in the classicist style, with the idea of having a large green area behind the castle park inspired by English landscape gardens. The park included a promenade along the Danube, riding trails, five interconnected artificial lakes, a stream, fountains, stone benches, and seedlings imported from all over the world, along with several sculptures, including the Pet Heads, Pompeian Column, Sphinx, and Cupid and Nymph. Changing owners and wars have only contributed to the rich offerings of Kamenicki Park. In 1919, Major of the American Army and Colonel of the Serbian Army John Frothingham and his wife Jelena Lozanić established the Serbian-American Friendship Home here. The Marcibanji–Karačonji castle was protected as a cultural property in 1991. In the middle of Kamenicki Park is a hill-viewpoint - Rose Hill, where five pillars resembling five Roman soldiers stand (though there are theories that these faces belong to members of the Karačonji family). Nearby are two of the oldest oak trees in Novi Sad, planted in 1805. Only two of the old lakes remain, which are filled with water from springs, but the stream still flows to the Danube. The Danube trail is the most beautiful promenade in the park, but the trail starting from the tunnel, which branches into two smaller trails, one leading to the Children's Village, is used more often.
On the banks of the Danube, in the Čortanovac forest, there are the remains of the Roman military fortification Castra Herculis. It was built under the command of the general Hercules in the 3rd century AD for defense against the Avars and other tribes. In the early 90s, research was conducted at this site during which a section of the wall was excavated, and the remains of a Roman cemetery were found behind the fortification.
This is a source of "healing magnetic radiation." It was discovered by Sofija Milanović, who claims that this place possesses healing magnetic fields that positively affect the central nervous system and help in the treatment of various diseases. All you need to do is enter the field circle, close your eyes for 20 minutes, and let yourself be affected by the "radiation." Since 2011, more people have been gathering at this location. Some terms associated with this place include saints, churches, Egyptian pyramids, power, light, which all suggest mysticism. The place is located at the intersection of Partizanski Road and the Ležimir–Sviloš road.
Bike Park Bukovac is a terrain for mountain and extreme biking located on a beautiful viewpoint near the village of Bukovac, on the way to the old barracks. This is the only specialized terrain for this type of biking in Fruška Gora. The municipality of Sremski Karlovci donated 5,000 m2 of land above the Bukovac settlement to young mountain biking enthusiasts in 2014. That area has been transformed into a park for mountain and extreme biking (MTB and BMX), with trails for cyclists of all skill levels. Since the beginning of operations, international competitions have been held at this location. You will mostly find a great team spending time here on weekends. The park also features a rest area that boasts a beautiful view of Novi Sad and Bačka.
It is located near Vrdnik. There are indications that the foundations of the tower were built during the Roman era in the 4th century, and later a fortification was constructed on those same foundations in the 14th century. The current tower is a remnant of that former fortification. It stands on top of a lonely hill covered in dense forest, so it will always be visible on the horizon regardless of the direction from which you approach. A winding mountain path leads to the tower, which is marked by a sign reading “Tower – Health Trail.” After a few minutes of active climbing, which should not be too strenuous, you will arrive directly at the oval walls of the tower. The tower is just under 20 meters tall and has a cylindrical shape. There are openings in the thick walls through which, if you are skilled at climbing, you can view the interior. The view of the Fruška Gora forests stretching into the distance is impressive. In the surrounding forest, there are remnants of the former fortification walls. On your return, you can descend the path toward Vrdnik and the Ravanica Monastery.
